Liberal Democrat Victory in Chard as Tricia O'Brien Elected to Town Council

The Liberal Democrats are celebrating victory in Chard as last night [24/04/2025] as Tricia O’Brien was elected to Chard Town Council following a tightly contested by-election in the Crimchard ward.
Tricia won by a single vote in a hard-fought three-way contest – a result that highlights just how important every vote is in local elections.
Election result – Crimchard Ward (Chard Town Council):
- Liberal Democrats – 178
- Independent – 177
- Green – 106
Speaking after the result, newly elected councillor Tricia O’Brien said:
“I’m incredibly honoured to have been elected to serve the residents of Crimchard. It was a close race, and I want to thank every resident who put their trust in me. I’ll work tirelessly to represent our community and to ensure Chard gets the attention and action it deserves. I’m looking forward to working with fellow councillors, from all parties, to deliver for our town.”
Adam Dance MP, who has worked closely with Tricia in the past, added:
“I’m thrilled to see Tricia elected to Chard Town Council. I had the pleasure of working with her on South Somerset District Council, and I know first-hand how committed, knowledgeable and passionate she is about serving her community. She brings valuable experience and a strong voice to the council, and I know she’ll do a brilliant job for the people of Crimchard and Chard as a whole.”
This result marks another step forward for the Liberal Democrats in South Somerset, building on the General Election result in July and a by-election win on Yeovil Town Council in October, all in the last year.
