Adam goes to the 'Home of British Helicopters'

Adam Dance meets with some of the Leonardo Senior Leadership Team.

Today, Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Yeovil Constituency, was invited to a briefing by some of Leonardo's Senior Leadership Team. The aim of the briefing was to give an overall picture of what Leonardo does as a company, and what it sees its role to be in the future.

Leonardo is a multi-million-pound international company with facilities across the globe. With their headquarters in Rome, Italy, they have manufacturing sites throughout Europe. In Yeovil, the largest of their UK sites, they bring together components from across the UK and Europe, to assemble one of the most advanced helicopters in the world. Employing over 3,000 people here in Yeovil, the company directly and indirectly through its supply chain, provides over 12,000 engineering and manufacturing jobs across the country. One of our foremost defence contractors and our last remaining helicopter manufacturing company in Britain it rightly boasts the tagline that they and Yeovil are 'The Home of British Helicopters'.

But as Adam learned today, there is more to Leonardo than just helicopters. As much as Leonardo is integral to Yeovil, Yeovil is just as much a part of Leonardo. This was demonstrated by the team’s enthusiasm about its future engineer programme and school outreach schemes. All of this is achieved through closely working with Yeovil College, local schools and nearby universities outside of Somerset. One of the more eye-catching statistics given to Adam was the number of women now entering or considering entering the world of engineering because of this outreach work by Leonardo.

Part of the briefing allowed for a tour of the assembly areas within the Yeovil site, where Adam was able to see some of the work carried out there. From building gearboxes, to assembling new aircraft and repairing old ones, a whole range of impressive engineering skills were on display.

However, the main message is as with everything, the future of Leonardos depends on work and orders coming in. Without these, a lot of the effort they have been doing in recruiting, training and retaining the engineers of the future, could be at risk.

Getting out and about in North East Yeovil

Adam Dance and his team get out and about around Cavalier Way.

Today, Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Yeovil Constituency, was joined by some of his volunteers as he knocked on doors around the Cavalier Way area of North East Yeovil.

Adam, already familiar to many around the area of the Great Lyde Pub because of his efforts to try to save the pub, was out talking to residents in the neighbourhood about the things that matter most to them.

Sadly, many were voicing their disappointment about the current state of national politics, with some so disillusioned that they were not going to vote at all. This a sad indictment of how our current political system is disenfranchising those who need it most. Silencing people by neglecting them does not make the problems go away, it only serves to make people frustrated and angry. Eventually, such frustration and anger can spill out and by then it is too late.

That is why Adam thinks it is so important to get out and about to talk with those who have the power to change things - the voters of the Yeovil Constituency.

Adam said: "There were so many positives from today. Listening to people who were keen to make change happen by supporting me in my campaign to bring proper representation back to the Yeovil Constituency. Thank you to those who opened their doors to me and my team and more importantly to those who took the time to talk with us. We had many willing to place stakeboards in their gardens and deliver some leaflets in their neighbourhood for me.

"We are not all alike. If we were, you would have someone knocking on your door every week, but you don't.

"I am determined to get around to as many doors across the constituency and talk with as many people as I can. Not just for the election, for always.

"The leaflets my team and I have handed out or put through your letterbox today have my contact details on them. If you or someone you know would like to contact me to find out more or think there is something I can help you with, please get in touch."

If you would like to help with Adam's campaign, please get in touch. From poster boards in your garden, to posters in your windows, from delivering leaflets to canvassing doors or volunteering in our office. We have all sorts of roles for anyone who wants to make change happen.

Adam and helpers out in NE Yeovil
Starting off from Cavalier Way

Getting out and about in the Yeovil Constituency will be one of my greatest priorities when I am elected.

Over the last weekend, I managed to talk with many residents and businesses around the Yeovil Constituency. It was great to catch up with friends old and new and see some of the great things happening on our doorsteps. Thank you for giving me your time.

Since being selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the Yeovil Constituency Liberal Democrats, I have made it my mission to start as I mean to go on. Getting out and about, meeting the people and businesses that make up our wonderful corner of Somerset. From Yeovil to Chard, South Petherton to Winsham, we are made up of so many small and not so small communities, coming together to make this a wonderful place to live and grow. But there is always somewhere or something we need to improve and I will only get to know this by talking with residents and getting out there.

David Laws and Paddy Ashdown before him, had it right. You cannot substitute actually being on the ground talking with and listening to people. It isn't good enough to sit in a distant office and hope that residents will come to you with their problems. Issues will stay hidden unless you go and seek them out. It will be one of my jobs to shine a light on matters that most affect those in the Yeovil constituency. The plight of residents will not stay hidden because it is convenient not to see them.

My pledge to you is to be as local and approachable a Member for Parliament as I can be. People who know me, know this is my strength, this is how I work, this is how I am and this is how I will be.

If you want to help me, if you want to be a part of the change that is coming, then please get in touch. You can contact me through the Yeovil Lib Dems, call or email me.

Wind in our sails!

Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat MP candidate for the Yeovil Constituency has said the party’s victory in the Somerton and Frome by-election shows the party has the “wind in our sails.”

The Lib Dems overturned a massive Conservative majority of 19,000, with a swing of 29%. A swing just a fraction of the size to that seen last night in Somerset would see the Liberal Democrats gain Yeovil from the Conservative Party at the next General Election.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Yeovil, Adam Dance said:

“The Liberal Democrats have the wind in our sails following last night’s stunning by-election win in Somerset. If that result was repeated here in Yeovil during a General Election, we would be on course for a historic victory.

“Having knocked on many doors during the by-election, I hear the same thing there as I do in Yeovil.  People are telling me they're sick of having to wait weeks to see a GP while seeing their mortgages and rents go through the roof.

“It’s clear that at the next election, it will be a two horse race here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives."

Getting out and about

Liberal Democrats aren't just there for the election periods. Getting out and talking with people on the doorstep is one of the fundamental things we continue to do. Learning what most concerns people, the issues that face them daily and offering to help, is the basis of a thirving democracy. It is what we have always done and will always do.

Over evenings and weekends, come rain or shine, Adam and his team are out knocking on doors across the constitency. From Yeovil in the East to Buckland St Mary in the West, from Pidomore in the North to Chilson in the South, we are knocking and talking everyday to constituents with grave concerns about everything from the state of our NHS, lack of GPs and dentists, to the poison in our waterways and yes, even Brexit.
