Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat MP candidate for the Yeovil Constituency has said the party’s victory in the Somerton and Frome by-election shows the party has the “wind in our sails.”
The Lib Dems overturned a massive Conservative majority of 19,000, with a swing of 29%. A swing just a fraction of the size to that seen last night in Somerset would see the Liberal Democrats gain Yeovil from the Conservative Party at the next General Election.
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Yeovil, Adam Dance said:
“The Liberal Democrats have the wind in our sails following last night’s stunning by-election win in Somerset. If that result was repeated here in Yeovil during a General Election, we would be on course for a historic victory.
“Having knocked on many doors during the by-election, I hear the same thing there as I do in Yeovil. People are telling me they're sick of having to wait weeks to see a GP while seeing their mortgages and rents go through the roof.
“It’s clear that at the next election, it will be a two horse race here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives."
Over the last weekend, I managed to talk with many residents and businesses around the Yeovil Constituency. It was great to catch up with friends old and new and see some of the great things happening on our doorsteps. Thank you for giving me your time.
Since being selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the Yeovil Constituency Liberal Democrats, I have made it my mission to start as I mean to go on. Getting out and about, meeting the people and businesses that make up our wonderful corner of Somerset. From Yeovil to Chard, South Petherton to Winsham, we are made up of so many small and not so small communities, coming together to make this a wonderful place to live and grow. But there is always somewhere or something we need to improve and I will only get to know this by talking with residents and getting out there.
David Laws and Paddy Ashdown before him, had it right. You cannot substitute actually being on the ground talking with and listening to people. It isn't good enough to sit in a distant office and hope that residents will come to you with their problems. Issues will stay hidden unless you go and seek them out. It will be one of my jobs to shine a light on matters that most affect those in the Yeovil constituency. The plight of residents will not stay hidden because it is convenient not to see them.
My pledge to you is to be as local and approachable a Member for Parliament as I can be. People who know me, know this is my strength, this is how I work, this is how I am and this is how I will be.
If you want to help me, if you want to be a part of the change that is coming, then please get in touch. You can contact me through the Yeovil Lib Dems, call or email me.
Liberal Democrats aren't just there for the election periods. Getting out and talking with people on the doorstep is one of the fundamental things we continue to do. Learning what most concerns people, the issues that face them daily and offering to help, is the basis of a thirving democracy. It is what we have always done and will always do.
Over evenings and weekends, come rain or shine, Adam and his team are out knocking on doors across the constitency. From Yeovil in the East to Buckland St Mary in the West, from Pidomore in the North to Chilson in the South, we are knocking and talking everyday to constituents with grave concerns about everything from the state of our NHS, lack of GPs and dentists, to the poison in our waterways and yes, even Brexit.
If you would like to help Adam in his campaign, please get in touch. See below or follow the link above.
The Liberal Democrats showed that we can win votes and seats from the Conservatives like no one else.
But we couldn’t have achieved these incredible victories without the generosity of members and supporters like you.
