The New Yeovil Police Station Must Have A Custody Suite
The new Police Station in Horsey Lane, Yeovil, must have a custody suite
There is an undeniable need for a police custody suite at the new Horsey Lane police station in Yeovil.
At present, the nearest police custody suite is in Bridgwater. This means officers across South Somerset who need to take someone into custody have to spend significant time travelling away from the communities they serve. Time that should be spent on the frontline is instead being spent on unnecessary journeys.
For communities across South Somerset, this has a real impact. Every additional journey places further pressure on already stretched police resources and reduces the time officers can spend visible and available in the communities that need them. Years of underfunding and understaffing have already placed significant pressure on Avon and Somerset Police, making it even more important that local police infrastructure is properly equipped to support officers and the public.
The new Horsey Lane police station is a major opportunity to strengthen policing in Yeovil and across South Somerset. A custody suite would mean officers could deal with arrests closer to the communities they serve, reduce unnecessary travel and make better use of limited police resources.
That’s why we have launched this petition calling for a custody suite at the new Horsey Lane police station — so Yeovil can make its voice heard loud and clear on this issue.
By signing this petition, you are standing up for our communities to receive the policing resources and facilities they need.
We want to see a clear commitment to providing a custody suite at Horsey Lane. Yeovil and South Somerset need certainty, investment and a police service that can spend more time protecting the communities it serves.
