Adam Dance: Chancellor must deliver a budget that brings real change for Yeovil
Ahead of the Budget, local Liberal Democrat MP Adam Dance has said that the Chancellor must deliver real change for Yeovil. His priorities include an emergency cut to VAT for hospitality and accommodation businesses, urgent action to cut household bills by removing the main green levy from electricity bills, proper funding for public services, and new support to reduce the growing flood risk in South Somerset.
Liberal Democrats say this Budget must be a turning point, delivering real economic growth, tackling the cost of living, supporting high streets and ensuring the NHS, schools and councils have the resources they need. They warn that communities are already struggling with rising costs and overstretched public services.
Adam has also called for fair investment in rural areas. He said that Somerset needs proper funding for small river and stream maintenance to reduce the rising flood risk across South Somerset, and stronger support for family farms and rural services.
Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil, said:
“Across Yeovil and Somerset, families are struggling with rising bills, small businesses are being squeezed and our public services are stretched to breaking point.
“This Budget is the chance to deliver real change. Instead, we have seen decisions that place pressure on high streets and leave households facing higher costs.
“We also need proper funding for small river and stream maintenance. Flooding is becoming more common across South Somerset and local people are paying the price. The Government must act before more communities are put at risk.
“The Conservatives left behind a damaged economy, but the Government has continued to make the wrong choices. We need real change in Yeovil that tackles the cost of living, supports local growth and makes big banks, tech giants and large online gambling companies pay their fair share, instead of punishing local businesses and hardworking families.”
