Cancer screening rollout confirmed for Yeovil after pressure from Adam Dance MP
Adam Dance MP has secured a Government commitment to roll out lung cancer screening in Yeovil, following his push for better early diagnosis and cancer care in South Somerset.
Recently, Ashley Dalton MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care replied to a written question from Adam Dance MP, in which he demanded answers from the Government regarding the expansion of cancer screening programmes in Yeovil and South Somerset.
Following Adam’s intervention, Ashley Dalton MP said she was committed to a full roll out of lung cancer screening in Yeovil by 2030, meaning every eligible person in England will have received their first invitation for a check.
Adam’s written question forms part of a wider push for stronger local NHS provision, which has included campaigning to save the maternity unit at Yeovil Hospital and helping to secure a new NHS dentist in Chard, with another set to open soon in Crewkerne.
Adam Dance MP said: “Nearly 3.5 million people across the UK are living with a cancer diagnosis, and 1 in 2 people will receive a diagnosis in their lifetime. This is an issue that is incredibly close to my heart.
I welcome this commitment, but time matters with cancer. Patients cannot afford to wait years for earlier diagnosis.
As the MP for Yeovil and South Somerset, I will continue to push for better cancer treatment and support, and ensure residents can access the services they need.”
