Adam Dance, Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil, has been granted an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons on Tuesday 3 June to raise serious concerns about the temporary closure of Yeovil District Hospital’s Maternity Unit.

An Adjournment Debate is a short, 30-minute debate held at the end of each sitting day in the House of Commons. It allows an individual MP to bring a specific local or national issue directly to the attention of a Government Minister and put questions on the official record.

Adam Dance will use the opportunity to hold the Government and NHS leaders to account over the six-month closure of the inpatient maternity service in Yeovil and to press for a clear commitment to restoring safe and local care.

The closure, announced with just six days’ notice, has caused widespread concern across Yeovil and South Somerset. In Parliament and in the constituency, Adam has consistently called for clarity, transparency, and urgent action to address staff shortages and protect local maternity services for the long term.

Commenting ahead of the debate, Adam said:

“This is an important moment to put Yeovil’s maternity services firmly on the national agenda. I’ll be pressing the Government for answers—and for a clear plan to reopen this vital service as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Members of the public can watch the debate live on Parliament TV at www.parliamentlive.tv or follow updates via Adam’s social media channels.
