Adam Dance MP backs call for justice for WASPI women

Adam Dance MP stands with four WASPI campaigners, all smiling and holding a purple sign that reads, “I will work with WASPI to identify and deliver a fair solution for all women affected.”

Adam Dance has joined more than 100 MPs from across Parliament in urging the Government to bring forward compensation proposals for WASPI women, following findings by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman that they were treated unfairly over changes to the State Pension age.

Women born in the 1950s were affected by changes to the State Pension age that were introduced without adequate notice, leaving many facing unexpected financial hardship. Despite clear recommendations from the Ombudsman, the Government has yet to set out plans for compensation, prompting renewed cross-party pressure for action.

Adam Dance MP said:

“Women born in the 1950s were let down through no fault of their own. Many were not given the information they needed to plan properly for their retirement, and the Ombudsman has been clear that this was wrong.

“After years of uncertainty, it is disappointing that the Government has still not acted on these findings. WASPI women deserve fairness and clarity, not more delay.

“I have joined colleagues from across Parliament to urge the Government to do the right thing and bring forward compensation proposals, including for women here in Yeovil who have been affected.”

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman concluded that the way changes to the State Pension age were communicated amounted to maladministration and recommended compensation for those affected.

A cross-party letter signed by more than 100 MPs is now calling on ministers to stop delaying and respond properly to the Ombudsman’s findings. Liberal Democrats say that successive Governments have failed to address the injustice faced by WASPI women and that continued inaction risks compounding that unfairness.

Adam has said he will continue to press the Government to act on the Ombudsman’s recommendations and ensure that women affected in Yeovil and across the country receive fair treatment.
