District Council

The South Somerset District Council is the longest held Liberal Democrat Council in the Country. Ric Pallister currently leads the Council with a strong team of portfolio holders around him.

The Council is responsible for building new homes, waste management, encouraging investment and running health and well being activities.

This District Council has consistently delivered great local services despite the cuts to its funding. The District Council has proven its resilience by generating new funds from government schemes and increasing efficiencies within the Council. With the Liberal Democrats leading SSDC, the council is debt-free and this year has cut Council Tax without any cuts to frontline services.

In May this year, SSDC will have new councillors elcted. Under Liberal Democrat leadership, South Somerset District Council is renowned as a “Caring Council” putting people first. The priorities for the council will be the continuation and development of our current policies linked to the four factors that directly affect the quality of life for all our residents.

Health  -  without our health we have nothing

Homes -  a warm, dry, affordable home is a basic need for everyone

Jobs  -  having a secure job provides an income and self worth

Environment  -  the quality of where we live and the environment we live in is important to us all

Our Priorities for South Somerset District Council in delivering on our manifesto promises are:

  1. to protect our front line public services
  2. to maintain existing strong links with all our communities
  3. to influence central Government and get a fair deal for South Somerset
