Liberal Democrat County Leader Jane Lock has discovered that the Tory run Somerset County Council is paying over £1 million a month for Agency staff: Jane said:
"It is no wonder that the Tories have such trouble trying to balance the annual budget, whilst paying out over £1 million a month for Agency Social workers. This means that we are paying at least £6 million more a year than we should be paying if we were able to recruit full time staff"
“Not only are we paying out a fortune we do not have, but it appears that the procedures for patients trying to leave hospital are so arcane, that elderly patients with social services input can be delayed up to month.!”
Sam Crabb, Shadow Cabinet member for Resources added “Once again we see that the Tories cannot be trusted with handling our finances in Somerset. The Prime Minister promised us after our floods that money would be no object, but it looks like the Tory run County Council is flushing away our hard earned money."
"Jane has just discovered this appalling state of affairs and we need to look very hard at what is going on with the finances within adult social services and the procedures. With this waste of resources going on the County Council will soon run out of money."
Jane Lock, Leader of the County Liberal Democrats said "This all needs to be addressed immediately, as our reserves are being eaten away at a rapid rate.".
