Level Of Unemployment In Yeovil Constituency Among Lowest In The UK
David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has welcomed the news that the level of unemployment in Yeovil Constituency is among the lowest in the country, but has warned that there are no grounds for complacency.
The latest figures show that unemployment in Yeovil Constituency is the 96th lowest out of over 650 parliamentary constituencies in the UK, with just 2.8% of the local population out of work. The figures for April 2012, published this week, also show that unemployment has fallen since last month by 74 people.
Confirmation of low local unemployment came alongside positive news for the national economy as new data showed that the number of people out of work in the UK fell by 45,000 in the first three months of 2012.
Commenting on the figures, Mr. Laws said:
"While it’s obviously good news that the level of unemployment in Yeovil Constituency is one of the lowest in the country, we cannot be complacent. We must make sure we maintain this strong showing and work hard to get those without a job back into employment. There is a particular issue of unemployment for young people which we need to do more to deliver help on.
"The European economic crisis is having a knock-on effect in the UK, but I’ll be working hard with local businesses and employers to seek to protect jobs and win new orders."
