David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has today welcomed the announcement that Yeovil town centre will benefit from a cash injection of £3million of central Government money to fund a long-planned upgrade to the A30 dual carriageway.  The Department for Transport today confirmed that the cash will go towards increasing the capacity of the key A30 road which serves Yeovil town centre.

The announcement follows a period of lobbying by Mr. Laws and local councillors to secure much-needed funding for a scheme to improve the A30 carriageway, on which motorists rely for access to town centre shops, amenities and Yeovil Hospital.

Following the announcement, Mr. Laws said:

“This is excellent news for Yeovil residents and businesses.  The A30 is an important artery for the town, and is very much in need of an upgrade.  Not only will the extra capacity ease traffic congestion, but there will also be improvements to pedestrian access.

“The £3million of Government money that’s become available to us is welcome and will fund a well-thought out scheme that will reap significant benefits for the people of Yeovil.  I’d like to congratulate local councillors Tony Fife, Tony Lock and Tim Carroll, who have done so much to deliver this project.”
