David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has joined Somerset residents in signing a petition against “destructive” cuts to Somerset County Council-run Youth Services.

The petition calls on the Conservative-led County Council to listen to the views of local young people who stand to have their services cut by 75%.  Petitioners have voiced concerns that not only are young people not being adequately consulted on the funding reduction, but that service withdrawal will result in serious damage to those who rely on the services.

Signing the petition, Mr. Laws said:

“We need to keep up the pressure on Somerset County Council to make sure it reverses its decision on making these destructive cuts.  The Council has not been open and has not properly consulted residents on its plans, and we’re running out of time to make councillors listen to local concerns.

“I urge all Somerset residents who have understandable worries about the damage this will cause to young people and our society to sign this petition now”.
