LAWS WELCOMES 560 MILLION EURO CONTRACT FOR TWELVE AW101 HELICOPTERS FOR INDIA
David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, today welcomed news that AgustaWestland has secured a massive new contract to build 12 new AW101 helicopters for the Indian Government.
These helicopters will be for VVIPs and this is one of the largest recent export orders for this important Westland helicopter.
David Laws MP said:
“Winning this prestigious order is a major achievement for Westland helicopters and it can only serve to strengthen the export potential for the AW101 helicopter.
I would like to congratulate all of the people at Westland who have worked so hard to achieve this success against tough competition.
This order will help to protect jobs in Yeovil and in the Westcountry, which is excellent news at a time when the global economy continues to be in such a weak condition.
I will continue to work to help secure additional orders from the UK Government, including pressing the case for as much of the work on the new Chinook helicopter to be completed in Yeovil rather than in the USA.”
