LAWS BACKS MISTERTON CROSSING CAMPAIGN
David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, today gave his backing to a local campaign for a footbridge over, or tunnel under, the railway line near Misterton, if a new housing development is approved close to Crewkerne Station (but in Misterton Parish). David has already met with the Chairman of Misterton Parish Council, as well as County Councillor John Dyke and District Councillors Angie Singleton, Geoff Clarke and Mike Best, to discuss the matter.
David has written to South Somerset District Council and to Network Rail giving his backing for the crossing campaign.
David Laws MP said:
"I fully support the campaign for a proper rail crossing in Misterton, which I think is essential if the current significant housing development is approved.
"We do not want the new housing to be cut off from the village, and nor do we want large numbers of children and other residents to have to walk directly over the railway line itself.
"The main part of Misterton will not be far from the new housing, but people will only want to get into the village if they can safely cross the railway line - the route into the village on the main road is much longer and has its own safety issues.
"I have raised this matter already with both Network Rail and South Somerset District Council. If the new housing is approved we need to look at the developers making provision for a footbridge or tunnel to connect both parts of the village safely together."
