LAWS WELCOMES COMPLETION OF AXMINSTER TRACK DOUBLING

David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has welcomed the news that the new “Axminster loop” will open on Sunday 13 December, allowing trains to pass without the current hold ups and delays.

Network Rail have invested £20 million in the project, which has constructed an additional three miles of track at Axminster. This will effectively double the capacity, enabling South West Trains to introduce an hourly service between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids.

David Laws MP said:

“The opening of the Axminster loop is great news for our area. This is something for which I have been campaigning for many years.

“I would also like to congratulate all the local people and groups who have worked hard for better rail services in South Somerset. This is a fantastic reward for their efforts.

“I will go on supporting their calls for improved rail services in our area.”
