LAWS WELCOMES GREEN LIGHT FOR NEW £17.5 MILLION SOUTH PETHERTON HOSPITAL
David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has welcomed today’s announcement by the South West Strategic Health Authority that it has given final approval to the building of a brand new £17.5 million hospital in South Petherton.
The hospital will be built in 2010, and will be open in early 2011.
The hospital has been closed over the last few years, after a part of the ceiling fell in – the old buildings dated back to before the Second World War.
David Laws MP said:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear this news. I have been determined that we should have a new hospital in South Petherton, and this has finally been agreed. The hospital will be of huge benefit in improving NHS services in our area – including in the area of stroke care.
“The campaign to re-build this hospital has been a very long one, and there have been a few bumps along the road. But the people of South Petherton have never given up, and they turned up in huge numbers to meeting after meeting.
“I would like to thank Mary Robertson, the League of Friends, and all the people of the South Petherton area for their strong backing for this project. I would also like to thank the Parish Council and the local district councillors for their hard work. Paull Robathan has been in constant contact with me about this project, and I know that he has been a strong supporter of it.
“I look forward to seeing the building works start soon, and to the opening of the new hospital in 2011.”
