LAWS DECLARES NO OUTSIDE EARNINGS

David Laws, MP for Yeovil Constituency, has today disclosed to the Commons authorities that he does not receive any supplementary income from outside interests or employment.

David works full time at his job as local MP, and has made it clear that he does not and will never take other paid employment while he is Yeovil’s MP.

Under new rules which came into force yesterday, all MPs must now publicly declare any time they spend on interests outside of their parliamentary duties, and any payments they receive from such work.

David Laws MP said:

“I welcome the new register of MP’s outside interests, which is an important step toward a more transparent political system. The public have a right to know about any additional sources of income received by their local MP, and the work undertaken for those payments.”

“I have never had a second paid job since becoming an MP, and will never do so. I believe the first priority of any parliamentarian should be to serve his or her constituents, and I do not believe that this can be done adequately if an MP pursues an additional career alongside their parliamentary duties.”
