David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, has today backed the Foyer Federation’s ‘Give Us a Chance’ campaign, which is calling on the Government to provide more support in order to help disadvantaged young people. Mr. Laws has signed a parliamentary motion in support of the campaign, one which has great relevance locally.

On Monday Mr. Laws met with representatives of Yeovil Foyer, which helps many young people in the constituency to live independently, study and get into work through a support network. However, many face difficulties due to barriers placed on benefits by the Government on young people returning to study.

David Laws MP said:

‘Yeovil Foyer and many other Foyers across the country provide an extremely important service for young people who would otherwise continue to be disadvantaged. It is important that the Government offers proper support to help people with their housing and with acquiring the skills they need to get into work.

‘I urge the Government to look closely at this issue, and to take action so that more young people are able to support themselves by getting into employment.

‘I am supporting a cross-party campaign in Parliament to take this issue forward.’
