Laws welcomes rise in nhs dentistry registration figures
David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, today congratulated South Somerset Primary Care Trust on continuing increases in the number of patients registered with a dentist in the area.
In January 2006, the number of local patients registered with an NHS dentist was 67,961 – 5000 more than in 1998. Furthermore, 85% of children are registered, compared to a national average of 61.2%. The percentage of adults registered was also higher locally, at 56% compared to 43.9%.
David Laws MP said:
‘I am pleased that the number of people registering with local NHS dentists has continued to rise, but there is a lot more to do. It is extremely important for dental health that everyone has access to a dentist, and the expected opening of a new practice in Chard later this year will help to encourage more people in and around our area to register with a dentist.
‘I congratulate the South Somerset PCT for taking dental care seriously by increasing funding, and I hope that we will continue to see the same rising trend in registrations over the coming years. I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that the people of Yeovil constituency have good local access to dental treatment when they need it.’
