The House of Commons will today hold a full-scale debate on the Government’s Post Office closure plans.

David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, will vote against Government plans to close 2,500 post offices. These include Goldcroft in Yeovil, East Coker, Mudford, Barwick and Haselbury Plucknett.

David Laws MP said,

“Both Labour and the Conservatives have devastated our Post Office network. The previous Conservative government closed 3,500 Post Offices, and since 1997 Labour have closed 4,000 and are now targeting even more.

“The Government is out of touch with rural communities, and does not understand the importance of local Post Offices. Many of my constituents have written to me about this, and I will also be making my own representations against the closures to Ministers and the Royal Mail.”

ENDS.
