Laws welcomes school road safety progress
David Laws, Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil constituency, has today been assured by the council that parking restrictions will be considered for the area outside Chilthorne Domer Primary School, in an attempt to improve safety. Mr Laws took up the issue after people at the school expressed their worries about the current parking situation. Parents are worried that cars double-park outside of the school, posing a safety risk as they make it far less safe for children to cross the road. The council has now written to Mr Laws stating that the issue of parking restrictions outside the school will be looked at as a matter of urgency by their new traffic technician.
David Laws MP said,
“I welcome the council’s assurance that this issue will be looked at as a matter of urgency. I hope this will be the first step in making the area outside the front of Chilthorne Domer Primary School safer.
“Clearly if cars are parked on both sides of the road it makes crossing very difficult. When vehicles are both passing down the street as well as moving in and out of parking spaces it can make it hard for children to cross the road safely. The police and the school are, I understand, concerned about this issue.
“Safety must be the number one priority outside our schools.”
