David Laws, the Lib Dem MP for Yeovil constituency, has been informed by South Somerset District Council that it is to increase the amount of litter clearance for the Newtown area of Yeovil. Staff will visit more frequently and will also be available to clean up litter when it is necessary to so. This action is in response to David Laws’ request that the Council look into this issue after the litter problem in Newtown seemed to be getting out of hand.

David Laws MP said,

“ I am pleased to have been informed by the local council that it will now boost the level of street cleaning in the Newtown area of Yeovil. The council has told me that it has employed more members of staff who are to patrol the area at least once a week.

“ It is important that the council deals with areas such as this on a pro-active basis. This means that members of staff will be able to clear up litter and refuse as and when it is needed rather than just when they are scheduled to do so. This means that any piles of litter can be quickly cleared up and will not attract more rubbish over time.”
