David Laws, Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil constituency, has been informed by Wessex Water that it has reduced the hardness of water in Shepton Beauchamp and the surrounding area by 20 to 30%. Wessex Water have constructed a water softness scheme following lobbying from David Laws MP and the local parish council.

David Laws said:

“ I am very pleased to have been told by Wessex Water that they have now completed the construction works necessary to reduce the hardness of water in Shepton Beauchamp and the surrounding villages. By blending different supplies of water the company claims to have reduced water hardness by 20 to 30%. I have received a number of letters from local residents who have already noticed the difference and who are pleased to have softer water.

“ This is good news and does not come a moment too soon. I have been working with residents affected by water hardness to find a solution to this problem for some time now. The problem was so bad that many local people had been forced to buy expensive water filters to prevent their kettles and other appliances from furring up.

“I am glad that we have made good progress in dealing with this – congratulations to Wessex Water and all those who lobbied so hard.”
