David Laws welcomes investment in westland road play area
David Laws, Lib Dem MP for Yeovil constituency, has today been informed by South Somerset District Council that it is to spend £25,000 refurbishing the Westland Road Play Area in Yeovil. The letter comes after David approached the council after local children raised the issue with him during his recent ‘Roving Advice Centre’ in the area.
David Laws said:
“I am delighted to see that the Council has earmarked £25,000 to refurbish the play area in Westland Road. I know that this is a play area which many local children and parents would desperately like to see improved. The Council will now consult with local residents over the summer, asking them, and their children, what they would like to see in their local play area. I know that some children want to see football posts and the younger ones want to see better play equipment.
“ However, there is still a little way to go until the Westland Road Play Area is completed. The biggest hurdle will be in gaining consent from English Heritage to build on top of the “Scheduled Ancient Monument”, or Roman Villa, underneath the site. If permission is granted then detailed plans will be drawn up in the Autumn and building can start at the beginning of next year.
“ I will continue to work with the council and local residents to help refurbish the Westland Play area.”
