Local MP welcomes progress on flood prevention
David Laws, Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil Constituency, has today been informed that South Somerset District Council are to consider installing relief pipes in Crewkerne to prevent a repeat of the flooding of May 17th. These pipes ought to draw water away from Victoria Square and siphon it off into the nearby stream.
David Laws said:
“ I am pleased that there is progress on preventing further flooding in Crewkerne. A report on flooding in Crewkerne that proposes a number of measures to tackle flooding has now been prepared by the district council. This includes a system of relief pipes which could draw water away from the town and to the nearby stream.
“In early May Victoria Square was flooded and some residents even had silt deposited in their houses. It is crucial that any flood prevention work is completed as soon as possible.
“I will continue to work with the local council and the highways agency to help make sure that this matter is resolved.
