David Laws, Lib Dem MP for Yeovil constituency, has welcomed today’s decision by the Radio Authority to make Yeovil the next British town to be put forward for its very own radio station. Yeovil is now at the top of a queue drawn up by the Radio Authority which lays out which towns are next in line for decisions on new radio licences.

David Laws MP said:

“ I was delighted to have been informed by the Radio Authority, the body which is responsible for regulating private radio, that Yeovil is now top of the list of towns for a new radio licence. I hope that the advertising process begins soon so that we can all enjoy the new radio station.

“Yeovil is actually quite lucky to be at the top of the list because the Radio Authority only has a certain amount of time before its duties are taken over by the new communications regulator, OFCOM, which might delay the whole process.

“ Yeovil town certainly deserves its own radio station so it is good to see that the ball is finally rolling. I will be taking a keen interest in progress on the proposed radio station and I hope that one of the local broadcasters will be successful in winning the new licence.”
