Laws’ concern over risk of further post office closure
David Laws, the Lib Dem MP for Yeovil constituency, has been told by the Post Office that Ashill Post Office near Ilminster is due to close in June 2002. David Laws is contacting the local Parish Council to look at ways of keeping a Post Office service in Ashill
David Laws MP said:
“I am very concerned to hear of the planned closure of Ashill Post Office. It seems as if we are to lose yet another local Post Office. I am therefore consulting with local people to see if a post office service can be maintained in Ashill.
“I will be contacting the Parish Council about this matter to see what options are available to us.
“ This is yet another sad example of a local sub post –office having to close, so depriving small communities of vital services. I will continue to argue for greater support for post offices in Parliament and provide post offices in our area with all the support I can.”
