Local Lib Dem MP David Laws has today been informed by Wessex Water that the design work for a scheme to reduce the hardness of water in Shepton Beauchamp is currently underway and that the scheme should be completed by June 2002.

David Laws MP said:

“ I welcome Wessex Water’s confirmation to me that the preliminary work on the scheme to reduce the hardness of water in Shepton Beauchamp is now underway. I am also pleased to see that a deadline for completion of the scheme by June 2002 has been set. I have been pressing for this scheme for some time now, so am glad to see that a resolution of this problem is finally in sight.

“This good news will not come a moment too soon for the residents of Shepton Beauchamp and the surrounding area. The scheme ought to be of major benefit to the residents and means that hopefully the problems created by the very hard local water will be much reduced.”

“ I will continue to keep a close eye on this matter to help make sure that the work is indeed completed by this June - and that local residents are satisfied with the new blend of water.”
