Laws welcomes david and dan as new chard councillors
David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, has welcomed David Orchard and Dan Shortland as the new town and district councillors for Chard Holyrood.
Dan and David were elected with huge majorities in the Chard Holyrood by-elections this Thursday, 14th September.
For the district council, Dan received 367 votes (Lib Dem), against 180 for the Conservative. The Independent Candidate trailed in third place on 127 votes.
David Laws MP said:
‘I would like to congratulate Dan and David on their success in the elections. I believe that they will both work hard for Chard Holyrood, and indeed for Chard as a whole. I know that they will want to represent all the people in this part of Chard, regardless of political party.
‘I am particularly delighted that we are getting new blood into Chard Town Council, and new representation for Chard on South Somerset District Council. We need to think about Chard’s future, and how we are going to work to make the town a better place in which to live. There are many issues which face Chard, and many challenges.
‘I want to work with all the representatives of Chard to attract new investment and opportunities into the town, to make sure that Chard has the opportunities and facilities which it deserves. I look forward to working with Dan and David over the months and years ahead.’
