Olympics to Create Long, Lasting Legacy For The Whole Of The UK
Ahead of Somerset’s turn to host the Olympic Torch this week, MP for Bath and board member of the Olympic Organising Committee, Rt Hon Don Foster MP was Keynote Speaker at a dinner organised by Yeovil Liberal Democrats last Friday evening [18th May].

To a packed and captivated audience, the MP gave his views on the upcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and how events such as the Olympic Torch Relay demonstrate that the games are for the whole UK, not just London.
Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Somerset County Council, Councillor Sam Crabb commented:
“It was great to have someone of Don’s experience and calibre to come and talk to local people about what role he felt the Games have to play for the South West and Somerset.
“The strongest point raised by Don was how the Games are ultimately about forming a long, lasting legacy for the whole of the UK, including right here across Somerset. As we’ve seen this week, the excitement and publicity surrounding the Olympic Torch Relay highlights how this is just one factor towards achieving this.
“It is a great shame that the Conservative administration at County Hall have been so short sighted and refused to help fund the Olympic Torch Relay. Full credit to local District Councils for making sure this once in a lifetime event became a reality for our local communities.”
