Laws expresses dismay as defra says farmers will not be compensated for late payments
David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, has described as ‘outrageous’ the decision that will mean farmers whose Single Farm Scheme Payments (SFSP) are late will not be compensated. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has revealed that no compensation or interest will be paid to farmers whose 2005 claims have been delayed up to the 30th June.
Mr. Laws has also found that some payments will not be paid by the deadline of the 30th June, although in these cases farmers may be entitled to compensation.
David Laws MP said:
‘The administrative mess of the farm payments has been appalling and this news is yet another blow to farmers. It is outrageous that farmers won’t be compensated for these departmental errors and that some will not even receive their entitlements until after the deadline of the 30th June.’
