LOCAL CAMPAIGNER CYCLES PERIMETER OF MARTOCK COUNTY DIVISION
John Bailey, the Liberal Democrat prospective County Council candidate for Martock Division, has successfully completed a sponsored cycle ride along with a few other enthusiasts. The ride followed the perimeter of the Division where he is standing in place of popular local councillor Doug Campbell, who is retiring in June.
The cyclists were sent on their way by David Heath, MP for Somerton and Frome constituency. £130 was raised on the day.
John Bailey, of Norton sub Hamdon, said:
“I would like to say a big “Thank You” to everyone who supported me in raising this money. The weather on the day was good and the ride took under two hours. This is a wonderful area and cycling round it is always a real pleasure.”
A competition was held to guess the total distance around the division perimeter. In the end, the milometer read 21.6 miles, and Martock resident Ali Dunford, who had the nearest guess at 21.4 miles, won a prize of six bottles of wine.
