Local MP presents nhs dentistry petition to no.10 downing st
Local Lib Dem MP David Laws has today presented his petition calling on the Government to provide more NHS dentists in South Somerset, to No.10 Downing Street. The petition was signed by over 2,000 local residents and called on the Government to take urgent action to improve NHS dental services in Yeovil constituency.
David Laws said:
“ I was delighted to present this petition calling for more NHS dentists in South Somerset to No.10 Downing Street on behalf of local people. Over 2,000 people signed this petition, which is a fantastic result and shows the real need for improved dental services locally. This petition will stress the seriousness of the situation to the Prime Minister and hopefully will put further pressure on the Government to improve dental provision in our area.
“There are still no dentists taking on new patients in South Somerset, which is forcing many local people to travel up to 15 miles to see a dentist. Many people who cannot travel, such as pensioners, must choose between forgoing treatment or spending a considerable amount on a private dentistry.
“ I would like to thank everyone who signed the petition or wrote to me expressing support. My next action will be to raise this matter with the Secretary of State for Health in the House of Commons at Health questions.”
