Suez medals
David continues to campaign on behalf of a number of Suez Veterans in his constituency who have still not received General Service Medals for their service in the Suez Canal Zone in the early 1950s. David has written several letters to Ivor Caplin, Minister of State for Veterans’ affairs, urging the Government to take action to clear the backlog of applications. In June of this year, David secured a parliamentary debate on the issue Although the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Medal Offices have now cleared their backlogs and are only dealing with applications as they are received, both the RAF and the Army Medal Office are only just beginning to process applications from as far back as November 2003, with further delays expected until the end of 2005. David continues to press the Ministry of Defense to speed up the administrative process so that these servicemen receive the recognition they deserve.
