A358 campaign

David successfully campaigned, both individually and as a member of a cross-party parliamentary group, for the dualling of the A358 rather than the upgrading of the A303. In November 2004, the Department of Transport opted to upgrade the A358. This will greatly improve transport links in the region, particularly between Ilminster and Taunton, and provide incentives for business investment locally. The A358 option will also avoid environmental damage to the Blackdown Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
