Future Lynx Contract at Agusta Westland
David Laws MP has been campaigning furiously for the Government to give the green light on this contract signed with Agusta Westland almost two years ago. David has been lobbying the current and past Secretaries of State for Defence on the Future Lynx Programme, urging them to go ahead. This programme is not only important for the Yeovil area, but also to our armed forces who desperately need new helicopters.
A senior Conservative MP has also been seeking to cancel this order of 70 new helicopters for Augusta Westland and the people in the Yeovil area.
David met with the newest Secretary of State for Defence - John Hutton MP - to discuss the crucial order for Future Lynx helicopters, on the 4th November 2008. The meeting, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in London, also included Graham Cole, the Managing Director in charge of AgustaWestland's operations in the UK.
David will continue to work closely in support of AgustaWestland. He will continue pushing for the Government to honour the contract as planned, ensuring that the decision is the right one for Westland, for Yeovil, and for the Armed Forces.
