On Thursday last (18 January) Adam Dance, Yeovil PPC for the Liberal Democrats, met with Leonardo, the multi-million-pound international company which makes Yeovil 'The Home of British helicopters'.

Adam says:

"I was excited to learn more about the contribution from Leonardo to our local, as well as our national, economy.  Employing over 3000 people at the Yeovil site, with another 12,000 engineering and manufacturing jobs across the country, we need to ensure Leonardo can continue and grow by ensuring they receive further contracts for their helicopters and other products.

"Adam Clarke and his colleagues kindly explained the outreach work Leonardo undertakes with Yeovil College and local schools.  One consequence of  which is a growth in the number of women now entering the world of engineering.

"As one of my three priorities in the run up to the forthcoming election is to support local business, I will champion both small and large companies to make sure, as far as I can, that their future is assured.  Leonardo's future depends on receiving ongoing orders for helicopters and other products both from home and across the globe"

Adam toured the Leonardo site with staff and apprentices of Leonardo Helicopters UK. He visited the assembly areas for new aircraft as well as for repairs and saw first-hand the range of engineering skills needed on the Yeovil site.
