Dear Resident,

The Government often talks about the need for ‘Affordable Housing’ but what is
affordable?

It is becoming increasingly impossible to live as a family on minimum wage in Somerset -
and even harder to afford a home!

In the 90s, the District Council took the decision to place its Council Housing stock in the
hands of Affordable Home Provider, South Somerset Homes (later to become Yarlington),
predominately to prevent the further demise of stock from the impact of ‘Right to Buy’
and maintain as many affordable homes as possible.

We need more local homes for local people.

Cary Lib Dems are asking you to have your say on housing and planning in your
community.

Henry Hobhouse and Kevin Messenger

Under successive Conservative and Labour Governments, Council Housing was sold off as part of ‘Right to Buy’ at vastly discounted prices and never re-built. Do you believe that truly affordable housing should be a government priority NOW?
